Young Women's High Adventure 2008!

Cait spent last week at Girl's Camp.
Our stake did something a little different this year. Each ward did their own camp instead of having a stake girls camp.
The youth spent months doing fundraising for Girl's High Adventure and Scout's High Adventure. Car washes, pancake breakfasts, golf tournaments and yard cleanup.

GOTTA LOVE CAIT'S SOCKS!
After much deliberation and debate the decision came down that the Lake Mary Young Women would spend 5 days in Georgia.

The High Adventure was designed to be difficult and challenging. The leaders feel very strongly that our Young Women need to know that they can do hard things! These activities would expose the inner strength of each young woman. Each girl left camp feeling more confident and empowered to handle the challenges of life today and in their futures as mothers in Zion. Testimonies were strengthened, prayers were answered and friendships were developed. It was a huge success!
LAKE MARY YOUNG WOMEN..........A GREAT GROUP OF GIRLS!

They spent some time working on team initiatives, developing trust, etc. There was a ropes course to be mastered. It was 40 ft. in the air - every young woman did it! Forty feet!! It took time, determination and lots of support from the other young women.

Is that a butterfly caught in that spiderweb! NO!......It's Caitlin! Remember, 40 ft.!

Here is a picture of the ropes course from the ground. I think it puts it a little more in perspective. Notice how small the people are!

As the girls stepped into the clearing where the ropes course was, the chattering ceased and there was an audible intake of breath as each young woman realized just what her immediate future held.

All smiles, unaware what was just around the corner!

Whitewater rafting was another challenge the young women got to experience.

Look at those faces.

Caitlin has always been my adventuresome child. She loved the rafting, had to have the front seat and couldn't get enough whitewater!

Resting at the top of Black Rock Mountain, GA after a 3 1/2 mile hike up the side of the mountain.

The last day the spent hiking. It was a rigorous hike, almost vertical in some places according to Caitlin.

A beautiful bunch of young ladies.....the overlook on Black Rock Mountain. Caitlin, Alysha, Tiffany, Ariele, Katie, Tekisha, Stephanie P., Sis. McGinnis, Amy (Back Row), Vendela, Courtney, Adena, Stephanie G. (Front Row).

What would we do without our priesthood leaders, Bishop Dorman and Brother Bush?! Looking pretty good after a week on the mountain with 12 teenage girls. Don't you think?

Thanks to Sister Cathy McGinnis, Sister Fran Miller, Sister Deidre Sullivan, Brother Morgan Bush and Bishop Jeff Dorman! Their efforts to make this camp a good experience for the young women were monumental! I applaud each one of them. The church leaders of my children are so instrumental in building character and developing testimonies. As a parent I am forever indebted to them for their unselfish service in helping me raise a righteous, confident family!

What a fun girls camp! I have to admit though, I'm glad I have 9 years before I have to worry about it.
